For Authors & Artists
Picture Book Manuscript Assessments
This is a service I offer to aspiring and emerging picture book authors looking for a thorough critique on their story as they work towards a strong submission to agents or publishers.
Feedback is a huge part of writing. Over the years, I have sought feedback on my drafts from critique groups, writer friends, my literary agent, as well as paid manuscript assessments from publishers (at conferences) or other authors (similar to what I now offer).
Each time, it has helped me to identify pitfalls in my story, strengthen plot or language, and develop my characters so that I could revise and submit confidently to publishers.
Full details are included in the info pack for you to download, but in general, manuscripts can be fiction, non-fiction, rhyming or prose up to 600 words long.
Turnaround time for each assessment is usually under 2 weeks, though please let me know in circumstances where you need it sooner.
The price for a manuscript assessment is AU$150, with the option of a 30-minute Zoom add-on for AU$50 to discuss ideas and changes up to 30 days after the assessment.
If you are an unpublished author and new to my service, I offer a discounted price of AU$100 for your first assessment with me.
If you’re interested in booking an assessment, or would like to learn more, you can download the info pack or send me an email at hello@indabinda.com.
Resources
I love meeting fellow creatives, and those at the start of their journey often have many questions about the industry, as I once did! I still remember how clueless I felt about the creative and practical processes of picture book making. There is so much to learn, from the craft of writing and illustrating, the etiquette of submitting to publishers, and contract terms such as advance, royalties and lending rights.
I’ve begun putting together free resources for aspiring authors and illustrators, which you are welcome to download below for free by clicking on the image – if you have suggestions for my next free resource, I would love to hear from you!
I’ve designed them based on the most frequent questions I’ve received from authors and illustrators who are just starting out, and I hope that they can be helpful to you.

What resource would you like to see next?

One-on-One Consultation
Some creatives may still need a little clarification and hand-holding, even after reading these resources, and that’s okay.
If you feel that you need a one-on-one chat about a particular subject in writing, illustrating or publishing, or bit of coaching from someone who is a little further down the journey than you are, you can book in for a Zoom consultation with me.
My fees for these consultation sessions are AU$50 for 30 minutes. Email me at hello@indabinda.com to book a time.
Please note that these sessions are not designed as assessments for manuscripts – if this is what you need, see details for my Picture Book Manuscript Assessment service above.
